"A large crowd attended the funeral of Mr. Charlie Coslow at Battle Baptist church Sunday by Rev. George Trout of Bruner's Chapel. Burial was in Battle cemetery." -- Harrodsburg Herald, Friday, Nov. 28, 1941. "Mrs. Sam Votaw and daughter Maggie, of DeKalb, Ill. were called here (Battle) by the death of her brother, Mr. Charlie Coslow near Battle." -- Harrodsburg Herald, Fri, Nov 28, 1941. He was married to Mary Evelyn "Eva" ROSS on Oct 10 1914.

and on her tombstone] and "Eve"; she was universally known as "Eve";
most people thought that her given name was "Eva" and used that for
formal occasions. I always addressed my letters and cards to her as "Eva"
and she never once corrected me (or anyone else as far as I know). She went to
school through only the third grade and perhaps didn't look at addresses very
closely. In the family, all her children -- and thus her grandchildren also --
referred to her and addressed her as "Mammy." As a result, perhaps
none of us knew during her lifetime that her real name was "Mary Evelyn."

served in the military in 1944/45 in U.S. Navy. U.S. Navy, CM3, assigned to
U.S.S. Missouri; present at the Japanese surrender. He died on Mar 10 1978 in
Louisville KY. Died of cancer. He was buried on Mar 13 1978 in Rest Haven Memorial
Cemetery, Bardstown Rd., Louisville KY. -Later reinterred at another cemetery.

C. COSLOW was born on Jun 15 1920. She died on Jul 19 1940 in Harrodsburg
KY. Died of tuberculosis at A.D. Price Memorial Hospital She was buried on
Jul 21 1940 in Battle Cemetery, Washington Co. KY. Harrodsburg Herald, Fri.
August 2, 1940. BIRD: Mrs. Hattie Coslow Bird, age 20, died Thursday morning,
July 18th, 1940, at the Price Memorial Hospital at Harrodsburg of complicated
troubles of long duration. She had been under treatment at the hospital for
several weeks but failed to respond. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coslow,
Mrs. Bird was born and reared in Washington County. On April 9, 1938, she was
married to Omer Bird, who survives her. No children were born of the union.
Others surviving are her parents, three brothers, Calvin, Arlie and Edward Coslow,
and four half-brothers, Onis, and T. Ward and Willie and Lee Coslow. Funeral
services, conducted by the Rev. George Trout of Bruner's Chapel, at the Mount
Zion Church of Christ, of which the deceased was a member, at 2:30 Friday afternoon.
Interment in Battle Cemetery.
