1862 Muster Roll No. 1507,Texas State Archives: John W. Cruce, private, enlisted in Company E, Capt. J.C. Hart's Company, Sims' Regiment Volunteers, 9th Regiment Texas Cavalry. Transferred into the service of Confederate States of America, October 14, 1861. Served 12 months. Discharged July 17, 1862.* National Archives, Confederate soldiers.

He died shortly after the war. The family stated that the hard ships he suffered during the war was the cause of his death.

There were no children of 2nd marriage.
