Nannie Bell Mayo (b. August 20, 1884, d. March 16, 1964)

Nannie Bell Mayo was born August 20, 1884 in Flemming Texas, Comanche CO, and died March 16, 1964 in Benicia Calif. She married William Preston Cruce on 1905 in Hood Co, TX, son of William Jackson Cruce and Anna Arrina Heath.

Nannie Mayo, was a sweet, soft spoken woman, and not very tall. I remember she always had a lot of wrinkles and the bluest eyes, with a soft smile.
William, her oldest son used to call he Moxey. Until many years later I never knew this was not her real name. William called her Moxey, because, she was a woman who could deal with hardships, and still take care of her family. She never had much help from her husband, he was always gone.

Nancy lived with her daughter Loretta Kasper in Benica Calif, until her death.

I remember a lot about my grandmother, but one of the funniest is the way she used to kill a chicken when we would come to visit. We would go out to the chicken yard and she would pick two chickens, she then would grab one at a time around the neck and spin it and then throw it on the ground, we would then wait for it to die. She would dip the chicken into boiling water and then we would pluck all the feathers off.
As a child I thought this was great fun.
