Demcy died when he was only 25 and his wife Louisa Jane remarried but she too was dead in 3 years.

Stephen Ambrose took the two little girls, his granddaughters, Essie and Hattie and raised them right along with his own children. In 1906 he paid a bond of $1000.00 to be appointed their guardian and the estate was apprised as consisting of 160 acres of land, wagon, mule, cattle, house furnishings, pork, and other plunder.
