the Botetourt County Line. It was along the old Valley Road. The town was founded
about 1797 by John McConkey who had been a captain in the Continental Army.
Additional infomation on the shops there. Near the village was a
large Cherry tree which was considered to be the geographical center of Virginia,
including West Virginia.
