Pages 104-105. As per Dick Rice. Bennett writes about the death of the Reverend David Rice, known as "Father Rice" and the "Patriarch of Presbyterianism in Kentucky". The REv. David Rice was the son of David Rice, Sr. and his wife, Miss Searcy. David Rice, Sr. was a son of the immigrant, Thomas Rice and his wife Marie. Page 105. RECORD EVIDENCES: Among Bedford County Va marriages are those of two of his children: James Mitchell (Clerk) & Frances Rice, Dec 19, 1782. Consent of David Rice, father of Frances.
David Rice and Jane Holt, daughter of Betty Holt, 1794: witnesses James Holt and James Mitchell. (William and Mary College Quarterly, 1st series, Vol 41) (or 11, my copy is not clear) pp 42, 282. He had a brother, Benjamin Rice of Bedford County, who married Catherine Holt, and by her was the father of Benjamin Holt Rice, President of Princeton, and the REv. John Holt Rice, famous editor and educator who has been called "one of the first Virginians of his day." For years he held the chair of theology at Hampden-Sidney College, and had a marked influence on the church for many eyars after his death, which occured 3 Sept 1831."

The family remembers Bejamin, Sr. as being a big man with red hair. My father was named for him. Phebe died soon after Charles ws born. Agnes brought up Charles and some of the younger children. There were numerous Rices in Botetourt and Bedford County, but I had no lluck tracing ours. There were other Benjamin Rice's in Bedford County, and I couldn't connect.
