Bedford County Museum. Bedford's Role in the Troy Conspircy of 1780 by June
B. Goode. 75 Troy offeders were imprisoned at New London and tied between June
ad September 1780. Simultaneously 2300 acres of loyalist property was confiscated
and auctioned off. Minor offenders were given the choice of volunteering to
fight the British in the Continental Army or a local trial. Tuesday December
5, 1780 being the names of 75 prisoners committed to the care of the keeper of
the Bedford County Jail during the summer of 1780-suspicion of treasonable practice

by John S. Salmon and Emily J. Salmon. page 50. Court on 30 Sept and 2 Oct
eleven men including Randolph Richeson pleaded guilty to taking an oath of loyalty
to the king and administering it to others. All were remanded to jail pending
their trail before the General Court. By 1786 Richeson were living in present-day
Franklin County.est bidder on a crdit of six, twelve and eighteen months to be
paid in equal installments of one third each the pucrchase giving bond with good
personal security therefore using entaining the ? to said lands as further amount
of money to pay the expense of sale and the costs of this suit and report to
court.
To the honorable judge of the curcit court of Franklin the undersigned appointed
a commissioner by a cecree of the circuit court of Franklin dated the 19th day
of May 1866 in a case in which Reed & Nathan Pearcy are pltfs and John Ricahrdson
alias Pearcy is defendant with directions to sell the tract of land therein described
as belonging to the estate of Charles Richardson doth beg leave to suport that
to uport that in accordance with said decree of the giving notice as he is directed,
he proceded on the 30th day of June last on the premises to sell by public autcion
said lands and that William P. Richardson became the purchaser at the price of
one thousand dollars and twenty five cents from which after deducting the costs
of suit and the expenses of sale which amount he deducted as by the decree directed
form the prop amount of sale which leaves a balance of $958 which divided unto
three payments marks each bond $316.6676 these bonds were taken with Samuel G.
Stewart as security due respectingly in 6 12 & 18 months from the day of
sale all of which is respectfully submitted said bonds are herewith returning

We command you that you summon John Pearcy alais John Ricahrdson to appear before
the judge of our circuit court holden for Franklin County, at Rules to be held
in the Clerk's Office thereof, on the first Monday in April next to answer a
bill in chancery exhibited against him in our said court by Nathan Pearcy and
Reed Pearacy. And have then there this writ. Witness George H. T. Greer, Clerk
of our said Court, this the 13 day of Marcy 1866 in the 90th year of the commonwealth.
Know all men by these presents, that we Greene W. Payne and Moses G. Booth
are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of Two
Thousand dollars, current money of Virginia, to which payment, well and truly
to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly
and severally, firmly be thesse presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this
3rd day of December 1866.
The Condition of the above obligation is such, that if the said Green W. Payne
who was apointed a receiver in the case of Nathan and Reed Pearcy against John
Pearcy alaias Jno Richardson by the decree made in the said cause on the 20th
day of October 1866. shall faithfully discharge the duties of his office of
receiver aforesaid accoring to law then the above obligation to be void, else

!In the name of God amen I John Richardson in of the county of Franklin and State
of Virginia of sound mind and memory and considering the shortness of life and
cetainty of death publish this my last will and testament in ? and form following
to wit.
First of all it is my request that after my decease my body be decently
buried and after my just debts and funeral expenses be paid the reest of any
perishaable property be equally divided among Catherine Piercy, John Piercy alias
John Richardson and Charles Pearcy alias Charles Richardson with the exception
of the aforesaid Charles Pearcy alias Charles Richardson to have one bed extra.
I also give and bequeath unto John Piercy John Richardson the plantation
on which he now resides going and being in the county of Franklin and containing
Twenty seven acres more or less.
I also give an bequeath unto my son Charles Piercy alias Charles Richardson
the plantation on which I now live and containing forty acres more or less and
Catherine Piercy is to live on the aforesaid plantation for life time if she
thinks proper.
I John Richardson do hereby publich this my last will and testment herreby
revoking all other wills heretofore made singed dated published and delivered
in presence of us on the 30 day of May 1845.
