bullet John HALL was born in 1810 in Tennessee. ! The Hall family of the Sequatchie Valley (Tennessee) has come into this area in different waves and do not all seem to be related. In fact, one of the earliest of those living in the valley did not live in the valley at first but later moved there. Rosewell Hall, of Rhea County began purchasing land in the valley in 1821 between Jasper and Hudson Creek. He bought land from John M. Cowan and Hugh Dunlap at this time. Later that year he bought 50 acres from William Stone in the 3rd Civil District of Marion Co. This was the grant #3909 of Stone from the state of Tennessee. By the end of the year, he had moved to the area and purchased a lot #62 in the town of Jasper. The next year he purchased lot #85. This first lot #62 was sold in 1826 to James Campbell of Winchester, Tennessee to cover the debt Hall owed to Shaw Tiffney & Co. These debts were incurred when Hall, a stone mason, built the jail for the town of Jasper. The last record we have of Roswell Hall was in 1828 when he sold a negro woman to Mark Hutchins. The next Hall to come to Marion Co. was Ignatus Hall, born in 1792 in Kentucky. He was a Colonel of the Militia, probably of the War of 1812. He came to Oates Landing in Marion County to find his bride, Esther Kelly, the daughter of John Kelly and grandaughter of Col. Alexander Kelly. Her grandfather Alexander first came into the valley on an Indiuan raid and liked the area very much He later returned with his familuy to settle down. Alexander Kelly drowned in later years in the Sequatchie River. To Ignatus and Esther (Kelly) Hall were born 9 children; Nancy 1821; Rebecca 1822; James 1824; Adalin 1826; Mary 1829; Martha 1832; John Wm. 1832(?); William 8/21/1840; and Thomas Patterson 8/31/1840(?). Many of these children remained in the valley. In the Bledsoe section of the valley, we find one Jesse Hall born in Virginia in 1786. He came to Sequatchie Valley early in the 19th century. His wife Dicy was born in 1796 in North Carolina. Their sons John, Joel and Benjamin took up residence in the Valley. From the records, it is believed that Benjamin Hall of Bledsoe was a brother to Jesse, but Benjamin was born in N. Carolina. Their connection is suspect. Another of the Hall families in Sequatchie came later in the 19th century, the family of David Houston Hall, M.D. He was born on 12/12/1830 in Knox Co., the son of Absalom and Nancy Brown Hall. David's grandfather Thomas Hall moved his family from near Chapel Hill, Orange Co., North Carolina to Tennessee about 1797 and settled on the north side of Black Oak Ridge in Hines' Valley in Knox Co. Thomas Hall was in the Revolutionary War as he enlisted in March 1780 as a private in Captain Richard Christmas' Company. He was in the seige of Charleston, South Carolina and was taken prisoner on May 12, 1780, but was paroled(?) by May 19th and remained a prisoner of war until October 1781 when he was exchanged. David Houston Hall began his practice of medicine in 1852 in Knox Co. but a couple of years later moved to Pikeville where he continued his practice until he died. He married Harriet Kirkland and they had 8 children; James Stewert married Lareda Karkin; Daniel Boone followed his father's footsteps as a physician in Pikeville, married Charity Barnes; Minta married Willim B. Michell; Ada died young; Absalom died at age 16; William Allen married Elva Graham; Charles Leonard Married Jennie Campbell and David Houston, Jr. died young. Parents: John HALL Jr.(see notes) and Franky ACUFF.

bulletJohn HALL Jr.(see notes) was born about 1780. A letter received by Alexis Spiritas from Richard Savage lists the following statement and infromation: "I don't know much about the Halls. They came from Grainger Co. to Bledsoe Co. in 1818 according to the deed books. I believe they were all decendents of John Hall Sr. A second group of unrelated Hall's settled in Bledsoe Co. sometime later. I have these marriages from Grainger Co. John Hall, Jr. - Franky Acuff Feb.17,1802 (bond John Hall, Sr.) William Hall -Nancy Acuff Jan.28, 1804 (bond John Hall, Jr.) Jesse Hall -Poly Defoe Aug. 1, 1807 Joel Hall -Judith Mallicoat Dec.2 1809 I think all these are sons of John Hall, Sr. I know Jesse Hall received land in the will of John Hall, Sr. Also in 1805 Grainger tax lists, list John Hall, Sr. and William Hall. and a 1799 Grainger tax list, lists John Hall. John Hall bought land in Grainger Co. Oct.3,1797 and he and wife Grizell Hall sold land Nov.4,1798."

There is no evidence as to who the father is of John Hall (1810). He could be the son of any of the above 4 men, or no relation at all. Any of t marriage dates would fit John Hall's birthday of 1810. Parents: John HALL Sr. and Grizell UNKNOWN.
