1223 Glenwood Drive; Cookville, TN 38501 dated 9/22/1985. He asked Alexis, "Did
your know that your John J. Hall was a Civil War veteran? In deed book O p.143
I saw that John J. Hall of 6th Regiment Tennessee Mounted Infantry volunteers
enlisted 20 Feb.1865 and was discharged 30 June 1865. Also it says he was 24
years old and was born in Bledsoe Co. I suppose he was a Union soldier but I
can check if you don't know."
My dad, George Dewey Culps has notes in his files that read as follows: "My grand-father John Jackson Hall, was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a minister of the Gospel, and as such, was called by three Christian churches to preach, in and around Allen, Texas. Grandmother Alphonsus (Johnson) Hall was born in Mein, Massachusettes. She and her children were on their way to join her husband, John, accompanying her was "aunt Bess" and her son, Henry (They were free slaves). On the way, my mother Effie May was born in a covered wagon in Arkansas. The place is unknown." Parents: John HALL and Mary SPEARS.
