bullet Ann Elizabeth (Eliza) KING was born about 1825 in Virginia. She died about 1879. The Census of 1850 for Giles Co. TN lists a Wm Culp (note spelling) to be 29 years old, Ann E as 25 years old. The 1860 Census lists Ann E as 34 years of age (Wm.is not listed-dead?) and the 1870 Census shows Elizabeth to be 45. Substracting 45 from 1870 would make her birth year about 1825. Records furn- by the King family lists her birth year as 1827. However, this would make her only about 15 years old when her first son, Robert Lewis was born.(1842)

There is no listing for Ann Elizabeth in the 1880 Census...remarried? dead?

The King family records show that Arthur King and Margaret Ann King, Parents of Ann Elizabeth (Eliza), came to Elkmont Springs (Ardmore, TN) in the 1820's from North Carolina, where they had lived for several years, after moving there from Virginia. Arthur and Margaret were both King's, she was a distant relative.

There is no record of the marriage of Eliza.

Rosa (Culps) Wright sent information that the 1870 Census records show Elizabeth (Anna Elizabeth),45 to have been born in Virginia, contradicting the 1850 and 1860 census reports, but being in agreement with the above paragraph.

In the next household in 1850 is Arthur King,71 and Nancy C.,65. They are both listed as born in North Carolina. By 1860 Nancy was a widow aged 69. There appears to be a contradiction in names here. The King records show the name to be Margaret Ann. It is not certain as to who is the mother of Eliza, Nancy or Margaret.

Information on the King family are from the records of Mae Rolland. Her grandmother was Ann Elizabeth (Eliza)(King) Culps.

The 1910 Census Records for Robert Lewis Culps, Age 68 showed that his mother was born in Virginia. At one time, his mothers parents, lived in Virginia and it appears that she was born in Virginia. Parents: Arthur KING and (Margaret Ann) Nancy C..

She was married to William Augustis (Arthur) CULPS about 1840 in TN. Children were: Robert Lewis CULPS, George Washington CULPS, Nancy Elizabeth CULPS, Sarah Anna CULPS, William Anthony CULPS, Henry Burrell CULPS, Francis B. CULPS.

bullet Arthur KING was born about 1786 in Virginia. He died before 1860. He came from Virginia to North Carolina then to Giles County, Tennessee in 1820's with his wife. We have no date as to his death. He is buried at the old home place, at the cave below the Ward Magnesson home.

He married a distant relative, Margaret Ann King, thus accounting for the same surname.

Rosa Wright Culps sent information from the 1850 Census showing his age as 71 and Nancy C.,65. The names Margaret and Nancy contradict. Husband and wife are listed as born in North Carolina. By 1860 Nancy was a widow aged 69.

The value of Nancy King's real estate on the 1860 Census was $800.00.
