EIGHTH GENERATION
208. Jean-Baptiste VADENAY
Vadnet d'Argenteuil@ was born about 1693 in France. He died on 10 Jun
1743 in Lanoraie, Berthier, P.Quebec. He was buried on 10 Jun 1743 in Lanoraie,
Berthier, P.Quebec. He was burial record give age as 50 years.. from Betty
Vadner Haas
BVH has from the Montreal Archives a difficult-to-read two-page document dated
18 July 1723 regarding the marriage in St Sulpice, L'Assomption, of Jean Vadenais
and Marie Anne Mousseau, in which the attending priest, P. LeSueur, recorded
at length the commitments of the pair and signed his name. Below the priest's
signature are writings by the Notary Senet above the date of 23 Sep 1723, and
followed by Senet's signature.
(A note that needs checking lists Jn Bpte born c.1701, St Anne, La Perade; m.
M Anne Mousseau in St Sulpice, L'Assomption, d.3 Jan 1742 in Vercheres. His
father Pierre Remi (de Vadenay) presumed m. in Paris c.1690. Was Jn Bpte born
in France and emigrated to PQ or did his parents come to PQ?
From St Sulpice, L'Assomption, parish records on microfilm at LDS library:
Jean Vadnais dit Argenteuil, son of the deceased Remi Vadnais and his deceased
wife Louise Moirie of the parish of anguiere of the diocese of Paris married
Marie Anne Mousseau, dau of the deceased Jacques and Marie Anne Donnais on 27
July 1723.
From LEBOEUF's Complement to Tanguay it seems there were two Jean Baptistes:
One (son of Benoit and Marie Nolan) married Marie Rose Hetu (dau of Georges
and Marie Coiteau) 7 Dec 1722 at St Sulpice. The other (son of Rene and Louise
Moirie) of 'Danquiere eveche de Paris' m . M Anne Mousseau (dau of Jacques and
M Anne Daunet) 20 Sept 1723 at St Sulpice. Drouin also lists the two Jean Baptistes
and their marriages; re the first he writes "see Beaudenesse dit St Jean".
To be examined is 27 Mar 1703 ND de Montreal death of Marie Francoise, 18 yrs,
original parish Panis, "living with Dargenteuil"
Tanguay, LeBoeuf and Drouin each list this Jn Bpte Vadenay who married M Rose
Hetu in 1727 (per Tanguay) or 7 Dec 1722 at St Sulpice (per LeBoeuf) . Careful
exam of the St Sulpice parish register does not list the latter marriage. Loiselle
shows this Jn Bpte as son of Benoit Vadenay and M Nolan. Tanguay lists these
children: Jn Bpte b and d 1727 at Trois-Rivieres; Jn Bpte b and d 1729 at Grondines;
Marie Joseph b at Cap-Sante; Joseph b 19 Sep 1732 at Ste-Anne de la Perade, m
Catherine Amable Guillet 1756. LeBoeuf's Complement to Tanguay shows: (1) children
of this Joseph were Joseph (m M Louise Marion in 1793)(Loiselle says she married
Louis' son) and Jn Bpte (m Margurite Marion in 1797) and (2) Jn Bpte and Marie
Anne Mousseau as the parents of the Joseph who married Catherine Amable Guillet,
25 Oct 1756 at Vercheres. As BVH sorts out the conflicting data she concludes
(and Al Dahlquist concurred in their April 1998 conversation) this would lend
credence to the idea that there was no male issue from the reported JB Vadenay/Hetu
marriage, but leaves us wondering if more than one Vadenay came to PQ. He was
married to Marie Anne (Marguerite) MOUSSEAU Desilets @ on 27 Jul 1723 in St-Sulpice,
