Descendants of Thomas Moore, Sr.

5. THOMAS3 MOORE III (THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 27 February 1820 in Hebron, Ohio or Wauseon, Fulton County, Ohio or Green Co., Pennsylvania40, and died 13 January 1897 in or 18th, Sico, Harrison County, Ohio. He married CATHERINE KIMMEL 15 June 1841 in Harrison County, Ohio, by-Rev. Benjamin Pope.41, daughter of JOHN KIMMEL and EVA TURNEY.

Notes for THOMAS MOORE III:
Per Winifred Stire Moore's Family Notes-
After they were married. Thomas and Catherine. For several years Thomas and Catherine Moore lived in Fulton County, near the town of Wauseon, Ohio. Here their seven children were born. Thomas Moore had dreams of a brighter future, if only he had more land. So he took his family and moved to Hebron, Nebraska where they settled down to homestead 160 acres of land. Later he bought 160 acres of more land. He now owned 320 acres of land, enough to raise plenty of stock and crops so he could provide a good living for himself and his family. One of their children was
Daniel Orin Moore father of Fred B. Moore
I remember hearing Grandpa Moore tell about a pair of mules they used to do their plowing. I remember also his telling about one time he was visiting a neighbor. They were standing beside the road talking when a man rode up and started talking to them. After he left, the neighbor asked Grandpa if he knew who the rider was. Grandpa said he did not know the man but he noticed he was soft spoken and he could see he took good card of his horse. Grandpa was much surprised to learn the man was Frank James, brother of Jesse James. Both men were well known and famous for robbing trains.
Grandpa Daniel Moore was very close to his Mother Catherine Kimmel and promised her he would stay home as long as she lived. Thomas Moore believed it was his duty to fight for his country, so he enlisted in the army and marched away to become a soldier in the Civil War. While he was away his wife and children took care of the farm.
All the other children were married when Grandpa Daniel Moore's Mother Catherine Kimmel Moore died on Dec. 21, 1884. She is buried in Alexandria, Nebraska.
So Daniel Moore and his father Thomas Moore came to Scio, Ohio, leaving Brother Frank to sell the farm. Frank had been married for four years to Eliza Moles. Frank sold the farm and moved to Ancortes Washington. The Brothers wrote to each other for a while, then they stopped writing. Daniel Moore married Florence McAfee Kimmel on Nov. 8, 1896. Thomas Moore lived with his son on a farm till he died Jan 13, 1897. He is buried in the New Rumley Cemetery and New Rumley, Ohio. The Family sold the farm and moved into town.

A MEMORIAL RECORD FOR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES
A door swings briefly open,
And a loved one slips away - -
Slips from Life's dark Shadows,
Into bright Eternal Day,
Where earthly griefs are over,
Where pain shall be no more
To Peace past understanding
God has opened wide the door.

Per Winifred Stire Moore's Family Notes-

Thomas Moore lived with his son on a farm till he died Jan 13, 1897. He is buried in the New Rumley Cemetery , New Rumley, Ohio. The Family sold the farm and moved into town.
Daniel Moore drove a dray in Scio. This means that with a team of horses and wagon he delivered things tat came in on the train to people that had made purchases in other towns.
Daniel and Florence Moore had two children. The oldest, a girl was born while they lived on the farm. Their boy was born after they moved into Scio, Ohio.
Grandpa Moore's folks belonged to the Lutheran Church.
Grandma Moore's belonged to the Methodist Church so the family attended the Methodist Church services each Sunday. I remember my Husband Fred Moore telling how he delivered milk so he could get $5.00 to donate to the Methodist Church when it was being remodeled. At this time he was only six years old but he was quite proud of the fact that he had worked and earned the money. Grandma Moore always had a good garden, and she was the first in the neighborhood to have green onions, lettuce, beets and peas from her garden. She loved flowers and always had several different kinds blooming in her garden all during the summer months. She always planted her sweet peas on the 17th of March and the more she picked them the more they seemed to bloom.
Fred also told me about the Sunday at church when the Preacher asked his Sister Nellie to sing the verse of a special hymn and asked the congregation to join in on the chorus. May who heard her remarked that her voice had that special something that most children her age do not have. The following week she was very sick with a sore throat. One Doctor said she had Diphtheria and gave her a shot in the arm. She did not get better so a second Doctor was sent for . The Second Doctor said she did not have Diphtheria but had Quinzy. But the Diphtheria shot had already gone through her system and he could not do anything to help her. She died the next day which was a Wed.
Fred also told me about going for long walks with his father on Sunday's. They often took along a fishing line, then would cut their fishing pole and spend many happy hours on the banks of a stream before returning home with fish for the evening meal.
Uncle Aaron Moore often said that Grandpa (Daniel) Moore was a good shot with the Muzzle Loading Rifle and seldom missed anything he was shooting at whether it was rabbits or any other kind of game. This Muzzle Loading Rifle was made to Uncle Aaron’s specification because he was left-handed. Grandpa Moore was left-handed so Uncle Aaron always said he wanted Grandpa Moore to have the Muzzle Loader Rifle. After Uncle Aaron died Aunt Ann would not give Grandpa Moore the rifle but one day when Aunt Ann was away Fred sneaked in the house, picked up the rifle and ran home with it. Grandpa Moore passed the Rifle on to son Fred and then it was passed on to our oldest son Marvin.
