I first started to get more interested in tracing my ancestry after watching 'Who Do You Think You Are?' on TV.
To trace the first 3-4 generations was easy as much was remembered by living relatives but as I go further back in the 19th century so the research got tougher. Records are available but they are difficult to trace as many children were named after their parents and this makes it more difficult. What added to the difficulty was that before the mid 1800's the family name was Deane.
Currently I have traced back to the early part of the 1700's for both mine and my wife's ancestors.
The names within our ancestry that I am searching for include Burton, Higgins, Higgs, Edwards, Broad and Cray. As far as I can ascertain no one has emigrated so I spend most of my time researching UK sources.
