20. Sidney Lee Hailey was born on AUG 23 1842 in Oxbow (Putnam County) Illinois. It is believed that Sid (nickname) and Mandy(nickname) and their 7 children came from Illinois to Kansas in the 1890s and settled in Nemaha County. In later years, he suffered from the illness called Dropsy. He served in the military on JUL 3 1861 in Co. A, 1st Illinois Cavalry. He died on MAR 12 1912 in Centralia, Kansas. According to US veterans service records, Sidney Hailey and his horse(valued at $100.00), signed up in Bloomington, Illinois withCaptain McNulta's Company A,1st Regiment, Illinois Cavalry on July 3, 1861, for three years.
His name then appears on the Muster-out roll of St. Louis, Missouri as being discharged on October 9, 1861, by reason of being taken prisoner at Lexington, Missouri on September 20, 1861, then paroled.
The entire A company was mustered out on October 9, 1861 as a result of this capture, re-instated for a short time, then finally mustered out on July,14,1862, as their services were no longer required. Those who did not return to service after October 9, were considered discharged at that date.
The Provost Marshall's document dated October 7, 1863 is signed by Lt. Col. and Provost Marshall General , J.L. O.Broadhead, and states:
" I, the commanding officer at Scofield Barracks will discharge Sydney Hailey, private, Co. "A", 1st Regt. Ill. Cavalry, held as a deserter, he having been regularly discharged from the service." He was married to Anna Amanda Shields on DEC 29 1864.

21. Anna Amanda Shields was born on APR 25 1844 in Fairfax (Jefferson County) Iowa. She was born on APR 25 1844 in Fairfax (Jefferson County) Iowa. At one time he was a rural mail carrier, and he saw to it the mail was carried in rain or sunshine. If he could not travel with a horse and buggy, he would travel by horseback. All families on his route were treated with a kind word.

child vi. Harry Edwin Hailey was born on JUN 23 1881 in Illinois. He died on DEC 19 1951.
