We found "Geoffrey de Hoville" (in the year 1314 he was the first Rector of Headley, Hampshire, England). (www.headley1.demon.co.uk/headley/ on page 5 of 15).
The English Society of Genealogists (www.sog.org.uk/) found a similar name "Hauville". (In French "au" is pronounced "o")
We know that "Hoville" or "De Hoville" a very rare name is...probably of Hugenot descent. Strangely enough "Hoville" can also be traced to Finland (to which about 250.000 Hugenots fled in the year 1592).
Our present day (known) family members live in the USA (Boston)where my son lives he is married to a Chinese; near Rosenheim Germany where my brother lives with his german wife and daughter; near Montreal, Québec, Canada where I live (with my French wife which also has a rare name "Hodimont") since 1966. I immigrated first to France (Paris-1960) and than to Canada-1966. From 1983 to 85 we lived in Sweden. My father was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1893 (he went to high school in Lille, France) he also lived in Canada (Montreal) between 1928 to 1932 and then moved to Spain and Germany.
We found a family member "Alfonse Hoville" on an ocean liner passenger and immigrating list: New York (USA) 1820 to 1850. (#273)he can be found on CD # 273 at (www.genealogy.com/genealogy/cgi-bin/iff)
There is not much more we could find out. Can anybody help us finding our Ancestors?
You can correspond with us in the following languages English; French; German; Spanish; Swedish - which I speak fluently.
Thank you; Merci; Danke; Gracias; Tack-sa-mycket; Spasibas; Chie Chie.
