Throughout centuries the DeLand and collateral family lines have been a people of strong religeous convictions.
From the Huguenot in France, and the English reformers, our people have been actively involved in seeking truth and thier God.
Immigrating to the American Colonies a scarce 20 years after the Pilgrim fathers, a refugee of the Huguenot persecutions that carried them to Holland, England, and other parts of liberal Europe, our first DeLand ancester was honored on his tombstone thusly:
"Humble and meek, a lowly path he trod,
And while he lived on earth he walked with God;
Good without show-obliging without art,
His hope was grace, and his delight was prayer;
Hish wish was heaven; Oh! may we meet him there."
