John WILLIS was. The John Willis mentioned here might well be Deacon John WillisIndianadicating
that he had a brother Nathaniel:
[p. 5] On 21 September, 1686, "Administration is granted to Elkanan Willis
of Bridgwater .... on the Estate of his father Nathaniel Willis deceased &
the Court Desireth his uncle John Willis to assist him in the managment of sd
Administration" and Elkanan and John gave bond for £40.
He was married to Elizabeth (Palmer) HODGKINS Widow after 1637 in BRIDGEWATER,
BRISTOL, Massachusetts. "John, Duxbury 1640, bec. one of the first sett.
of Bridgewater, where he was a deac. m. Eliz. wid of the sec. William Palmer,
wh. was a Hodgkins, had five s. and three ds. John; Nathaniel; Jonathan; Comfort;
Benjamin; Hannah; Eliz; and Sarah; says winsor; but Mitchell give Joseph instead
of Jonathan." Savage says, "I would suggest the inquiry, if that wid.
were not the sec. w. of Mr. Willis, and some of his ch. b. by a former one."
"Mitchell says his will, of 1692, pro. 1693 refers to the eight ch. of wh.
Hannah was w. of Nathaniel Haward . . ."
In an early query to NEHG 42: It is noted that she was first married to Richard
Palmer in Scituate in 1633.

On 2/12 Janry 1637/8, Francis Cooke was a member of the jury which tried the
case of John and Elizabeth (Hodgkins) (Palmer) Willis against the executors of
the estate of William Palmer, Sr. He was also on juries which tried two men for
theft. [J. A., 4, & C. O., I :138]

about 1646. Conjectured: He was by 1666 married to Mary Makepeace as mentioned
in her fau. Thomas' will. this assumes he was at least 20 by the date of this
will. Parents: Deacon John WILLIS and Elizabeth (Palmer) HODGKINS Widow.
He was married to Mary MAKEPEACE before 1666 in Boston, Massachusetts. In his
will, Thomas provides for Mary, mentioning Lawrence Willis, and a debt due to
him from John Willis of Bridgewater

John II Willis has reference number AUD28302. John2 WILLIS was born
before 1666 in Boston or Bridgewater, Massachusetts?. This will of William Makepeace
serves only to identify John Willis Jr. and his father, then residing in Bridgewater.
