I cannot find Americus L. Lee after the 1860 census. I believe he was working on a farm in Pontotoc County, Mississippi in the 1870's for a Robert Stewart, as a farmhand. A. L. Lee appears in the 1900 Census.

I believe that A. L. Lee left Texas in early 1900 where he remarried Mattie Evelyn Griffin, July 4, 1900 and together they raised their family until he died August 30, 1927Indiana Mississippi.

GRIFFIN - I'm doing research on my family genealogy and one of the names is CALHOUN. Although this is a middle name I know the custom is, or was, to use a family name from the mother's line in this respect. Thomas Calhoun GRIFFIN is one of my grandfathers. He was the first born to Henry M. GRIFFIN and Sarah "Sally" CHENEY while they lived in GA. His birth date was 17 Feb 1831 Talbot Co GA. Before 1840, Henry bought a plantation in Noxubee Co MS where he and the family lived until 1861 when he enrolled in Company H, 5th Infantry (Mississippi Blues) of the Mississippi Volunteers. He died of disease in March 1862 in Tuscumbia AL where he is buried. Henry's children were: Thomas Calhoun GRIFFIN, Isaac Middlebrooks GRIFFIN, Mary E. GRIFFIN, Frances and Caroline (twins) GRIFFIN, Henry P. GRIFFIN, Martha Louisiana GRIFFIN, Rufus F. GRIFFIN, Samantha C. GRIFFIN, and Mississippi V. GRIFFIN. Thomas Calhoun GRIFFIN went to Kaufman Co Texas where he had a successful, prosperous life. I am looking for information on Rachael GRIFFIN, who is listed on the 1850
Chickasaw County Census. This section later became Calhoun County. I believe
Rachael GRIFFIN's husband was John GRIFFIN. The property adjoining Rachael
and (John) was owned by Jesse and Matilda PEPPER. In Rachael Griffin's
household were children: Nancy, John A., James C., Rachael E., Archibald P. and
Benjamin, who may or may not have been her son. Also living nearby was Jesse
GRIFFIN, who was living in the William Arrendale household. Is Jesse Rachael's
son, too? I am trying to confirm the identity of Rachael's husband. Rachael's land
was later quitclaimed to members of the GORE family. I know there is a
connection between the GRIFFIN and GORE families. Anyone with information,
please contact me.
