NINTH GENERATION
324. John Steward
was born in 1750 in Surrey/Sussex County, Virginia. He has reference number
22181. Teresa, you said John STEWART of...Stewart's Creek,(he came to the area
California 1737 "down the valley" History of Pittsylvania County,Virginia)
this is same info I have of our John STEWART, as far as the North Carolina part,
I know my ancestor (Philip RUSSELL) drove wagons to and from North Carolina.(during,
and after the Rev. War), and we believe he may have hauled freight for John STEWART.
There is a connection between a John STEWART, and James STEWART, jr & sr
of Pittsylvania County,Virginia. A John STEWART helped out my ancestor, and his
father (Philip & William RUSSELL) by paying a fine for them-1782- Pittsylvania
Co Virginia. This whole thing is too close, and it needs some more research.
We feel that our ancestor could have been living in North Carolina before going
on to Tennessee in 1797, as there were other RUSSELLS also living in North Carolina
before departure to Kentucky-Tennessee. Thank you for your answer, and I/we will
be working on this mystery, starting in Surry Co North Carolina
I am researching William Stewart who lived in Amelia County, Virginia. in the
1700's. William had the following sons: Nathaniel, John, Edward, and Joseph,
all born abt. 1750-1772. Supposedly, William died living the boys for orphans
. The boys later appeared in and around Henry and Patrick County Virginia. and
Surry County N.C. Edward left the area for S.C with wife Mary Ford around 1790's.
Joseph married Margaret Dean and lived in Carroll County and Grayson County Virginia. The
boys were adopted by a relative John Stewart of Stewarts' Creek Virginia. and
N.C John was married to Rachel. John was born abt. 1736 and died in 1806 in Surry
County N.C Any help unraveling this mystery will be appreciated. Teresa Stuart
de Rios, El Salvador.
STEWART FAMILY
This website has been a research project of over 20 years. This is still a work
in progress and not everything is verified. OUR STEWART FAMILY ~ Our earliest
known Stewart ancestor, John Stewart, was born about 1735-40. We don't know for
sure if he was born in Scotland, Ireland or in the United States. Others researching
this family say his daughter Nancy was born in Ireland although I have not been
able to confirm this. We have his Will stating that he died in 1806 in Laurens
County, South Carolina. In an abstract of notes of Dr. Leonard Crosby, a Stewart
descendant. Mary Anna Riggin, a researcher, says that in the abstract there is
a typed note saying that the names mentioned in the WILL of Francis Stewart were
also included in the actual packet of estate papers concerning John Stewart .
It is from this information that I confirm that John Stewart who died 1806 is
the father of Francis Stewart of Laurens County, SC, of course we would love
to find another source but for now this is all we have. Mary Anna Riggin, when
at James Crosby's house, son of Dr. Leonard Crosby, wrote the following in a
letter to me; "found a lady's name (Mrs. Bill Gore) in Dr. Crosby's papers
(went back last week for a more in depth look) and have been trying to find her
in Adams County, MS. . . . I'm very confused as I found a copy of a Will (in
Dr. Crosby's papers this week) for Francis Stewart (Laurens Dist, SC, 6 May 1845)
which named daughter Mary, and sons William, Robert, and John Allen, goes on
to say ........"Sarah Lipp the mother of the above named children have a
support" ...........then there was a typed page concerning what appeared
to be about these same three sons coming into the Mississippi area and in fact
were enumerated on the 1820 (William) and 1830 (John) censuses. Went on to say
living with John was his mother, Sarah. Next said living next to John was his
son, Thomas (from whom Mrs. Gore descended) and Simon Jenkins, who later married
Sarah Lipp Stewart. So from all this, I thought Francis was the father of William
who came into Monroe County. ." He was married to Lucretia Parker in 1774
in Surrey County, Virginia. 325.
Lucretia Parker has reference number 22310. Family found on Ancestry.com.
