Looking for information regarding a Robert H Guntley born in Switzerland in March 1847. He was cooper by trade in St Louis, MO, USA. He would have come over here before 1867 when he married his wife Elizabeth Sommers in St Louis.

A cooper made slack barrels. If they made barrels, then I assume they were possibly working for
a brewery or a supplier of barrels to a brewery or shipper. Since barrels were used to store and transport lots of different commodities, the barrels could have been used for just about anything, i.e. apples, salt, sugar, etc.

Audrey,

Yes, there is a connection. My wife's name is Georgiann Guntly. She is the granddaughter of George Guntly, great granddaughter of Robert H Guntley. We had found that Katherine Guntly (Guntley) was born in this family.

This information came from the 1880 U S Census. We show her as the fourth child of Robert H Guntley and Elisabeth Sommers. She was two years older than George Guntly.

We have located an Ethel Guntly Bumb, who is still alive. She is a niece of Katherine Guntly, daughter of Robert E Guntly, Katherine's older brother.

What is your connection to Katie (Katherine) Guntly Ames. Did she die in childbirth? Lets exchange information if you wish , please contact my wife or I.

Thank you for the information you sent! As I indicated the information I had regarding Katie Guntly came from the 1880 US Census for St. Louis. Specifically it is in Volume 40, Enumeration District 283, Sheet 8, Lines 31 thru 38.

I feel certain that Hilda Ames is not the daughter of Katie Guntly and Larue Ames. Unless she was born before their marriage, I strongly doubt that or was a twin of either Eugene Robert or Larue Edward.

You should be able to find Larue and Hilda in the 1900 US Census for St. Louis.

If you don't have access to the US Census, I can look for it the next time I go to the St. Louis County library.

Robert H Guntley (Guntly) was the son of Christian Guntley and Kate Sundker. He had two older brothers, Joseph Christian, DOB 12/18/1840 and Edward, DOB 4/1844, DOD 1/15/1912

Let me know what other info you might like to know.

Regards!

Leo Donovan

Looking for ancestors of Peter Christopher Sommers, born in Nassau Germany approx 1849 (married Kate A Donnelly before 1870 after serving in 12th Ill Cavalry as a bugler 1861-1866). I believe his brother was Herman H Sommers. Both were police officers in St. Louis, MO

Next I have a 1900 census Mo, St. Louis
Sommers, Mehala head of household
and on the next page her daughter
Mrugio, Len age 19 is listed as born in Germany as well as her parents, also she is listed as single this is really hard to read and so many things were crossed out and corrected I don't know how accurate this census info was.
This census has Mehala as family 117, next page Lena is family 107, the next family is listed as family 118. I 'm not sure about Lena

Mrugio and who she is and if this reflects that she really was a daughter of Mehala unless (mrugio)which is a guess, it was hard to read could be McKeal .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------
Looking at the 1910 St. Louis census, there is a Mahala Sommers listed as a mother-in-law to Daniel McKeal. She was 83 yo in 1910 and her birthplace is listed in Kentucky. I hope this helps.

One of my father's brothers was living with a McKeal at one time. I have an affidavit that Mahala signed in 1903 and hadn't been able to find anything else on her. The affidavit is in regards to the Lowe family, Lowe being her maiden name.
she was living in St. Louis in 1903. She was born in Kentucky, you found her!!!!!!!!!
Mahala was married to a Kidd before she married Victor Sommers. They were married 5 Sept 1852 in Jefferson County, Missouri.
have so far on the Sommers name.
I'm not sure if this is my Victor Sommers, however, it could be
Federal census 1850 Stark County, Ohio lists

Summer , Victor age 22 Farmer (assets $1200) Lux
Summer, Barbary(Barbara) 20 Lux ( this is confusing to me, is she the same as above?)
Swartz, Joseph 34 Brewer Lux (also in this household)
I assume John and Victor are brothers, then I haven't found a Victor until 1860:
