"Next comes Uncle Arther. He lived at a little village called Whitethorn and was station agent there for the railroad. There was also a post office there. He was married to Nettie Sheltman and we know them as Uncle Arthur and Aunt Nettie. Their children were Elwood, Arthur Carlton, Ashby, John, William, Ruth, Nettie Florence and Margaret. At this point I would like to say that this was the family that we became very close to, as well as Aunt Clara's. Mother Clemmer came from New York shortly after we were married and we went to their family reunion at Whitethorn. It was quite interesting. We were quite young and we recall that there was a ferry that went across the new river at that point and so they took us for a ride across the ferry and back. We made many interesting friendships at that point. Later, it became a tradition, like the Clemmer family, to have a reunion each year and they began to meet on the church grounds. The church is a beautiful brick building and was situated on several acres of ground through which runs a beautiful stream and large shade trees along the banks. Each Labor Day we would go there and enjoy a reunion with them. They invited not only us and those of us here around the Staunton area, but also those from Aunt Clara's family; in fact, all were invited, but I don't remember that Uncle Will's children ever came. The food was plentiful. It seemed that each one tried to outdo the other, and these friendships that we made then were very beautiful. They brought out tables, I believe, from the church and benches too, and we took our own lawnchairs. We would enjoy the afternoons in real fun and fellowship. On an occasion or two we went over into the church, and with the piano there, we would sing up a storm. These were very happy occasions, and we went until health caused us to back off a bit. We have stayed in constant contact and they have come to visit us. The last time they came to see Aunt Grace, and we had a nice time together, about a year before she died." Mrs. Nellie Taylor, wife of W. E. Taylor, died Sunday at her home, near Sands Station, of cancer, having been sick for about one year. She was 46 years, eight months and 24 days old, having been born in Slate Hill, August 8, 1868, the daughter of Richard Wight and Emily Brundage.

Emily Wight was about 3 years old when her mother died and she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Phebe Maria Kimber and Orsamus C. Brundage. Emily and her sister Eleanor were both married the evening of Sept. 24, 1887 at the Goshen Methodist Church. Eleanor and her finance Wilmot E. Taylor were witnesses for Emily's marriage to Ellsworth Taylor. Emily was just 17 years old and Ellsworth was 28. Emily and Ellsworth likewise were witnesses for Eleanor and Wilmot E. Taylor's marriage.

When Ellsworth Taylor died, it was covered in great detail in the local newspapers. His death was investigated since he had been killed by the railroad cars. The findings were published in the Middletown Daily Press, Tuesday, April 21, 1896 stating he had been drinking with his twin brother when they came to Middletown to buy a horse. The brothers separated on the way home and Ellsworth laid down on the railroad tracks and was run over by the cars. The jury ruled it was an accidental death and exonerated the railroad and its employees from blame in the matter.

When Emily married Lewis Doty, she asked him to take a pledge never to drink a drop of liquor. They put it in writing and both signed the oath and it was kept for many years in the family bible.
