bullet Emily Wight was born on 13 Sep 1870 in Wawayanda, N.Y.. She died on 19 Jun 1956 in Middletown, New York. She was buried in Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NY. She has reference number 13. Emily Wight was about 3 years old when her mother died and she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Phebe Maria Kimber and Orsamus C. Brundage. She married for the first time shortly after her grandmother died.

Emily and her sister Eleanor were both married the evening of Sept. 24, 1887 at the Goshen Methodist Church. Eleanor and her finance Wilmot E. Taylor were witnesses for Emily's marriage to Ellsworth Taylor. Emily was just 17 years old and Ellsworth was 28. Emily and Ellsworth likewise were witnesses for Eleanor and Wilmot E. Taylor's marriage.

When Ellsworth Taylor died, it was covered in great detail in the local newspapers. His death was investigated since he had been killed by the railroad cars. The findings were published in the Middletown Daily Press, Tuesday, April 21, 1896 stating he had been drinking with his twin brother when they came to Middletown to buy a horse. The brothers separated on the way home and Ellsworth laid down on the railroad tracks and was run over by the cars. The jury ruled it was an accidental death and exonerated the railroad and its employees from blame in the matter.

When Emily married Lewis Doty, she asked him to take a pledge never to drink a drop of liquor. They put it in writing and both signed the oath and it was kept for many years in the family bible.

The Port Jervis Union, Monday, June 25, 1897 issue reported on Emily and Lewis' marriage:
