] states:
Brundage, William K.,--age 26 years. Enlisted, August 15, 1861, at Middletown, to serve 3 years; mustered in as corporal, Co. D., August 16, 1861; promoted sergeant, Nov. 1, 1862; discharged at expiration of term of service. William's brother, Ira S. Brundage, enlisted with the same company and regiment the following day, August 16, 1861 in Goshen. When William's brother, Albert L. Brundage, died in June of 1911, he was listed a surviving brother in Waverly. On Joyce M. Tice's 'Tri-Counties Genealogy Sites' web page, I located William K. Brundage in a transcription of the 1870 federal census with his wife. He was a farmer at that time with real estate valued at $600 and his personal estate $100. [www.rootsweb.com/~pabradfo/census/1870she3.htm] In the transcript of the 1880 federal census, William and Sabra were recorded with the surname 'Rundpye' but it certainly appears to be William and Sabra Brundage. William's occupation at this time was carpenter. [www.rootsweb.com/~pabradfo/census/1880she5.htm] The Independent Republican published in Goshen, NY: April 10, 1914 Issue William Kimber Brundage died at his home in Athens, Pa., on Monday, March 16, at the age of 77 years. He served in Company D, 56th New York Volunteers during the Civil War and was honorably discharged at its close. Mr. Brundage was born June 29, 1836, at South Centreville, this county, the eldest son of Orsamus G. Brundage and Phoebe M. Kimber, both deceased. On September 10, 1865, he was united in marriage to Sabra A. Mallery, of Athens, Pa., who survives him; also one sister, Mrs. Thomas Harlor, of Johnson, she being the youngest and last surviving member of a family of seven children. Mr. Brundage followed the carpenter trade until about 20 years ago, when he received an injury from a boiler explosion from which he never recovered. Brundish died between 20 May 27 and Oct in Wethersfield, CT. He was christened
on 5 Jun 1593 in Rattlesden Parish Co. Suffolk, England. He has reference number
1930. From "A Brundage Family Genealogy" compiled by Thomas William
Brundage, 1989:
"John Brundish, the first immigrant, came from County Suffolk, England to Massachusetts around 1632. The Brundish family was well established in that area as is indicated by the frequency with which the name appears on parish records of the time and there are still, to this day, land marks in the County that bear the name. There are no known records that any other Brundish man emigrated to America, either in the seventeenth century or afterwards, so that all persons bearing the name, in any of its versions, are apparently descended from the one original immigrant. " [Page 1-1] "John Brundish, chr. June 5 1593 at Rattlesden Parish in Co Suffolk, England, came from Felsham Parish to Mass. about 1632, a tanner, made a freeman at Watertown 1635, d. betw. 20 May 27 Oct. 1639 in Wethersfield, Ct. John was a son of Thomas Brundish and Agnes Tompson who were married in 1584 at Rattlesden." [Page 2-1] "At Weathersfield John and Rachel lived on what is now Sandy Lane. He died, probably by suicide, without a will; his estate was valued at 174 Pound Sterling in chattels and 130 Pound Sterling in house and land. The chattels included books as well as tools. Rachel was granted the chattels and the real estate was to be for the childrens portion when they reached sixteen. The land was sold before May 1641, presumably when Rachel left Weathersfield for Fairfield." [Page 2-1] From "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield Volume I" compiled and edited by Donald Lines Jacobus, M.A.: "Brundish, John [The name is also spelled Brundage] A tanner, came to Watertown, Mass., thence to Wethersfield with first settlers. The name later was spelled Brundage. Inv. 27 Oct. 1639. Widow Rachel and five children; two older girls, a boy, and two younger girls, all under 16 yrs. An original unrecorded deed, dated 20 May 1639, witnessed by Andrew Ward, Edmund Wood, and Robert Rose (the last by mark), not signed by the grantor John Brundish; the second part, dated 23 Nov. 1639, is a confirmation given by the widow as Adm'x. and states: "but Providence so disposing of the aforesayd John Brundishe that before the tym that the money was due & ye writing (?) confermed He put an end unto his lyf." Hence he d. between 20 May and 27 Oct. 1639, which disposes of suggestions that he was killed by Indians in 1637. The widow Rachel m. Anthony Wilson of Fairfield, about 5 Aug. 1642, as the badly defaced probate record in Fairfield mentions agreement of that date. At Rachel's death (1648?), Anthony Wilson was to have the homelot in Fairfield that was Rachel Brundish's, and to pay legacies to the children, John Brundish, Mary wife of Francis Purdy, Bethia Brundish and Posthume. The tanner's tools had been sold, and John was to have the money. John Brundish of Rye, on 24 May 1667, having formerly sold to his father-in-law Anthony Wilson, land in Fairfield, exempts such lands as the heirs of Francis Purdy possess, except that Joseph Taylor now posseses the remainder of my lands not above exempted."
