I have traced our family back to a place called Bandon Bridge (now just Bandon) in Count Cork in Ireland. My great-great grandfather was born there in 1800. His name was George Dineen and he joined the British army and was stationed in Canada then transferred to Parramatta in NSW Australia before finally settling in northern Tasmania.Family anecdotes have always claimed that the family was originally from France and fled the Alsace/Lorraine District during the French Revolution. However further research has also pointed to the possibility that the family may have fled the Huguenot persecutions in France. Anybody who may have any other information is more than welcome to contact me.My Email address is drdineen@yahoo.com.au
