3. ELI³ DITTO (WILLIAM², JOSIAH¹) was born November 08, 1828 in Alabama, and died January 24, 1920. He married (1) MARY HARRIS February 22, 1852 in Marshall County, Alabama. She was born July 15, 1830, and died Abt. 1895. He married (2) MARGRETTE ANN MCCANN September 01, 1872 in McLennan County, Waco, Texas, daughter of JOHN MCCANN and SOPHIA LATHAM. She was born September 01, 1844, and died December 05, 1914.

Eli Ditto came to Texas 1854 where he found employment as a farm hand. In 1861 he enlisted in the Civil War Company D Sixth Calvary. He served one year on the West side of the Mississippi , and then on the east side. He participated in over 100 battles and was first under General McCulloh, then James E. Johnston, and then under Hood. He was wounded in the shoulder at the battle of Davis Mills, and was unfit for duty about 2 months. After the close of the war, he was paroled and returned home, where again engaged in farming. He owned 440 acres of good land, ninety acres of which was cultivated primaly in cotton and corn.
He was affliated with the Democratic party.
