The PAUL DOLD Family Genealogy

Updated July 20, 2002

Our Family Genealogy comprises over 5500 individuals at present (July 2002), and dates from about 1500 or before. The vast majority of people in the genealogy come from the Black Forest, Germany, specifically from the following villages and towns from the Baar-Kreis area:
Furtwangen, Neukirch, Gutenbach, St Peter, Waldau, Schoenwald, Urach, Rohrhardsberg, Schonach.

The principal family names in the genealogy are the following:
Dold, Kuner, Ruf, Hepting, Haettich, Bauerle, Faller, Beha, Furtwaengler, Scherzinger, Kern, Rombach, Ketterer, Ganter, Fehrenbach, Schneider, Saum, Loeffler, Winterhalder.

Other family names of lesser significance are: Duffner, Tritschler, Hummel, Maeder, Teusch, Mark, Hug, Kaltenbach, Creuz, Eschle, Dorer, Grieshaber, Schildecker.

We also possess the "Hoefechroniks" or Farm Books for the above villages, and some others in the immediate area of Furtwangen. These contain family information on all the farms from about 1500 to the 1900's.

Our family, as were most families from the Black Forest, was involved in the clock-making and trading businesses from 1750 on, and went to England, specifically South Wales, in the late 1800's to establish businesses in the clock trade.

The smaller part of the family genealogy comprises an Irish branch, from Dublin, (Kavanagh and McWilliams), another German line, from Prussia, and a Pennsylvania Dutch line that is chiefly associated with the Kitchener-Waterloo area of Southern Ontario. That line is extensively researched, the major family name being Witmer.

Contact for the purpose of requesting and/or sharing information on any of the above is welcomed by those with connections to both the villages and the families named.
