I am researching the family of Stanislaw (Stanley) Koziuk and his wife Julia Augustiniak (Augustyniak). They immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in the early 1900's. Julia arrived February 2, 1910 and according to the Ellis Island site, she was 17 years old and single. They had 3 sons; Francis (Frank), Joseph and Edward and 3 daughters; Aneila(Helena), Caroline (who died at 2 years of age) and Bertha. There was a Paul Koziuk whom we called "uncle" but I have been told that he and my grandfather (Stanley Koziuk) were cousins by one source and that they were uncle and nephew by another source. I believe the Koziuk branch came from the Polish section of Galicia.
The common demonator between the Koziuk and Augustyniak families seems to be 39 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY. I'm guessing that it was an apartment building (tenement)and where my grandparents met.
I am also researching the Strozak family. Michael Strozak (Strozuk/Stroszek/Storozuk) and his wife, Anna Tolisz (Tolesz), originally settled in Buffalo, NY then moved to Hicksville,L.I.They had a son; William and 2 daughters; Jennie and Florence. Jennie married Paul Koziuk and Florence married the "nephew" Frank. When I received Anna Strozak's information from Immigration and Naturalization Service I learned that Michael was born in Hnilice Nielkie, Poland and Anna was born in Hniliczki Male, Poland. All documents I had before this just gave "Austria" as their place of birth. Since they had left Aunt Jennie with relatives when they first came to America, they went back to get her when she was about three years old. They made several trips back to Ukraine before their final trip in 1911. Grandpa came back to NY from Hamburg, Germany on SS Eugenie, Jan. 1911 and Grandma arrived on April 17, 1911 on SS President Grant. The passenger record for Aunt Jennie gives her name as Genia Storozuk.
I have found so many spellings of the surnames and different dates of birth. Any information would be appreciated and I am also willing to share the information that I have.
