Charles Duncan & his wife Margaret came to Canada from Ireland in 1843. Their children--James, Robert, Margaret, Isabella and Fanny were all born in Belfast. There might have been other children--Mary Anne, John. They first settled in Kitley Township (near Perth,Ontario) before moving in 1850 to settle in Reach Township (near Uxbridge, Ontario). Charles was born about 1795 and died 1869. The farm was sold and his wife Margaret moved to the Aurora area. James married Jane Gibson and they farmed in Aurora; Robert moved to Orillia and settled in North Orillia Township about 1870. He married Margaret Cairns. Margaret married about 1850 to Askin Rockey but died in childbirth in 1851 or 1852. A daughter survived. Isabella married George Lawrence also from Reach Township and they moved with Robert to Orillia. Fanny became a Mrs. White and lived in Reach Township. James & his wife Jane were married for over 60 years. They are buried in Aurora Cemetery. Two of James' children married in the "Case" families.
Would like to get in touch with other people researching the Duncan surname. Also interested in linking up with someone in or around the Belfast, Ireland area researching this family name.
