bullet Doris DeLuce Parents: Henry Harold DeLuce and Gertrude Irene Florence Huebner.

She was married to Wayne Howard Woodfill on Sep 11 1954 in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co, MN.. Married @ St Paul's Lutheran Church 724 Lowry Ave NE (Lowry & Quincy), Minneapolis, MN. Grandpa & Grandma Foss had a farm in North Central Minnesota. The house was large, at least 2 story plus basement. It was built on a hill with a large semi-circular drive to get to main road. The hosue had a large porch on South and East side. Barn was a bottom of hill with large windmill to pump water for the cows. They grew vegetables for hiouse in the land between drive and road. The planted corn, peas, beans, beets & cucumbers.

Grandma Foss was an invalid in her later years. (Children took turns caring for her). She stayed wth the Woodfills' in Bloomington for quite awhile. She was confined to bed and had to have several operations at the last beause of gangrene. As far as I know Merle and Margaret Foss inherited the family homestead. All the other had moved and had their own places.

I don't remember Grandpa Woodfill, but Grandma Woodfill lived in a house on First Ave South in Minneapolis. She taught me how to work jigsaw puzzles. Bill & Caroline Woodfill used to live next door, I think at first and then moved to Bloomington about 1935 or 1936 in the summer. Dad Woodfill had a sister Floetta who got Grandma Woodfills house. Flo married Emmet Hannon who ran a detective agency. They didn't have children so Flo always had lots of breakable glass & porcelain figurines around.

Dad's brother, Robert Woodfill, was a motorman for the street car line also. They lived on Colfax, I think in Minneapolis. Bob's daughter, Marge and her 3 kids lived with him in the later years. She was separated from her husband. I think Dad had two other sisters, one died young and the other, I think was called Sis. She married Ephraim Hutchinson.

Bill & Caroline Woodfill bought a house on approximately 2 acres in Bloomington, MN. This was later subdivided into 6 city lots. Daddy Bill, as the neighborhood children called him was a gentleman farmer. He worked for the street car co. (Twin City Lines), all his life driving street cars out of Nicollet Station and buses later. He would work the early shift and then come home and work the garden. He supplemented his income with home grown corn, peas, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, potatoes. Mother canned the surplus for winter. There were apple trees as well as currents, Raspberries and green onions. Sometimes lettuce and cabbage.

We used to clean gren onions in the spring, bundle them in small bunches, load them in back of the car and sell them dor to door in Minneapolis. They sold like hot cakes Later did the same thing with boxes of strawberries.

Dad had a lot of anmals for many years. Cats, a watch dog chained to the garage and the chickens for fresh eggs and Sunday dinner. We had a couple of pigs on year. Got real big. Lots of fresh milk. We churned our own butter by hand. That was very tiring. We had 2 cows we sold milk to Pat Clark's mom and dad. The cows were kept ina shed type extention of the garage in winter. In summer, we took them to pasture along Nine Mile Creek. When I was in high school, I did most of the milking in the evening. It was a long walk down to the pasture, hunt all over looking for the cows, then carrying home a full bucket of milk. Seems like we had a calf every year or so. In the winter, dad would butcher the yearling calf. The meat was hung up on the front porch. There was no heat so the porch was a good freezer. When mother needed a roast or steak, she would just cut it with a hacksaw.

I used to build model airplanes when I was going to high school. One time I built a model of the battleship U.S.S. North Carolina, 44" long. I put sand in the hull so it would float to the water line. John McLean, Pat Clark's brother, and I took it to the creek and launched it one day. Looked almost real. Took pictures of it in the water. Won a ribbon with it in a hobby show. Got my picture in the paper with it. This was in 1946 or 1947. The model was stored in the basement of Bob & Betty Branger (1989) in Minneapolis, MN. (Fully restored in 1999, put in a glass case and sits on fireplace mantel in son, Roger's home.

When I was in high school, I caddied at golf course in summer. I would make $1.50 to $3.00 on Wednesday and Saturdays, and $3 to $6 on Sundays. I caddied for a Dr. Nylander mostly. He was a physician/Surgeon. Other people he played golf with regularly were an offical of the Auto Club, a dentist, a cleaner, another doctor and a sports promoter. Dr. Nylander had his office overlooking left field of the Minneapolis Millers' baseball team. I got to watch a game from the office window one time.

In my senior year, I joined the U.S.M.C. reserve. Was in it about 4 montsh until graduation, then joned the U.S.M.C. Basic training in San Diego in summer, electrical school at Great Lakes, Illinois in the winter and radio repair school at Camp Pendleton, CA in the next summer. Went to Korea with First Brigade (3rd Battalion 5th Regiment). Took part in landing at Inchon (port of Seoul) South Korea and battle in resevoir area of North Korea. Korean Service Medal - 2 Stars, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medals.

After military service, I worked at Ecklen Radio in Minneapolis. Then went to University of Minnesota. Married Doris DeLuce on September 11, 1954. Graduated U of M in June 1957. Moved to San Diego to work for General Dynamics-Astronautics on Atlas Missile Program. Moved to La Habra in September, 1963. Worked for Rockwell on Apollo program for 8 years.

At one time, I took lessons and played the accordian.

Doris and I had 2 children, Roger Alan Woodfill, born July 8, 1958 and Sharon Kay Woodfill, born April 12, 1960. In year 2000, Roger had one daughter; and Sharon had 4 girls and 7 boys.
