Charles' father, John, was killed by a Mexican when Charles was very young (4). His mother remarried in 1879 to William Henry Bridge

When Charles was young he drove the stagecoach from Leadville to Florence [Colorado]. He was also a card dealer at one time.

Charles spent most of his career as a streetcar man. He was only 29 when he went to work for the railway. He worked for the Municipal Railway in Seattle, Washington. He retired in 1933 at 59 years of age, after putting in 30 years.

Charles had also worked in the coal mines in Cle Elum, Washington- Mine #7- circa 1913 at approx. 39 years of age. Also in Black Diamond, Washington with his step-father, W. Henry Bridge.

Charles worked for the Grand Union [T?] Co. around 1914 or 1917. That is when the family was living in Ballard.

He worked a short time at the Allen Shipyard with his half-brother Harrison Bridge...around 1918 or 1920

Charles had these other jobs but always went back to the streetcars

Marian Anderson was taking care of Clifford (after Lulu's death?], the adopted son of her mother, Lulu, and Howard Allan for a period of time.

Molly [Bennett} Carlson reportedly offered to help out by taking Clifford for awhile. There was a family named Shearer that wanted Clifford and offered money [$500] for him. Molly accepted the transaction. When Marian learned of this she was shocked! Clifford was probably only 3 or 4 at the time
Marian knew that someday they would have to come back for Clifford's birth certificate and he would learn the truth. Marian's father would never give up the birth certificate. (How did he get it?)
When Clifford was 18 he wanted to join the Service. He needed his birth certificate and the Shearer's had to tell him he was adopted. They brought Clifford to Hettie [Bennett] Moore's house and sent for Grandpa Anderson. It was explained to him that he had been raised with the Allan family until the age of 4. Parents: Howard Allan and Lulu M. Bennett .

family tradition says Judge John Allan was stabbed in the back bya Mexican he had sentenced. This may have happened on his front porch. Another version of the story says he was shot in the back and killed. The shot being fired through the window of his house by someone hiding in the cactus.
