bullet Dionysius OLIVER was born in 1735 in Petersburg, VA. He died in 1808 in Elbert County, GA. One of the earliest settlers of Georgia.

About 1779 moved to Edgefield District, South Carolina, later to Wilkes county, GA. His is listed in first tax digest of Wilkes county. (Elbert county was formed in 1790) In 1785, was living in Captain Ragland's district, owning 5,000 acres of land, in the fork of Broad and Savannah Rivers, called Petersburg, in honor of his old home in Virginia.

He served as captain of a privateer in the Revolutionary War with General Lincoln and General Marion. He was at the Battle of Kettle Creek, Wilkes Co., was captured and imprisoned by the British.

He died at his home in Elbert Co., buried at Stenchcomb Meeting House. Had ten children by his first wife, Mary Anne WINFREY who died in 1802, and one son by his second wife, Jane Jackson.
