| I am researching the following families: Ayotte, Bristol, Darrah, Elder, Emery(dit Coderre), Furlong/Ferland, Gratton/Graton/Gratto, Guyette/Goyette, LaDue, La Farr, Livernois/LaVarnway, Manor/Ménard, Ratello/Ratelle, Robinson, Wolcott and others mainly from Northern New York State. Most prevalent counties are Clinton, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington. My uncle has done most of the work on the Wolcott line of my family. He has traced it back to Henry Wolcott and thus allowing us membership in the Society of the Descendants of Henry Wolcott. The oldest Emery I have found is Francis Emery, Sr. (aka Francois Xavier Emery dit Coderre) husband of Julia Ratello/Ratelle (1818-1904). We believe they came from Quebec through Michigan, but Francis (at least) was originally from France, although I am now finding evidence that he may have been born in Canada. My family descends from their son Edward (1847-1923) and his wife Mary Furlong (Ferland) (1858-1915). The Manor name is derived from Ménard. This family also came down from Quebec. The eldest Manor I have found is Amos (Hormidas)(1857-1933) married to Mary Jane Gratto (Gratton)(1860-1933). They are buried in Dannemora, Clinton County, NY. I was told he was the son of Firmin Ménard and Marie Arcouet, however his death certificate lists his father as Thomas. I now suspect that Firmin may have been his uncle but would appreciate any help that anyone can give me on this line. I have recently found (and been given) more information on the Elder family. Matthew Elder married Hattie, the daughter of Alonzo Bristol and his wife Mary Eveline Robinson sometime before 1877. The Elders lived with the Bristol’s in Fort Edward, NY. I have been given a lot of information on the Robinson’s but am having a problem tracing the Bristol and Elder line. It looks like Matthew Elder may have come from the Watertown area, with ancestors from Ireland. There is a family story about a ship called the “Black Jane”, but so far I have been unsuccessful in finding records for such a ship. The eldest Darrah's are brothers Charles & Thomas. All of the information that I have farther back than Robert & Lucy, I have gotten from the Internet. I have not verified most of these sources. For anyone seeking information, I would be happy to share. For anyone with information, or corrections, I would greedily and gratefully accept. Please drop me a line. |
