Tucker: Note: Thomas Moorman, father of Zahariah was dead before Zachariah
joined the Army in 1640. He was not the Thomas Moreman of Warwickshire who came
to VA on the Bono Novo in 1620. He died in 1640 in Isle of Wight, Hampshire,
England.(395) In 1620, while he was
in Jamestown, Virginia, he received word that his wife had bore a son, Zachariah.
In 1625, Thomas Moorman "Yeoman" won a suit over tithes of Bronchurch
which he had refused to pay.
George Fox, the founder of the Society of Friends, made a visit to Virginia in
1672. He had been preceded by several missionaries in 1656 and 1657 so we cannot
guess when the conversion of the Moorman's to that faith took place. However
we know that during his visit Fox spoke at a meeting on the Nansemond River which
was "attended by Maj. Gen Bennett and others" ... and many were converted
at that time.
