FIFTH GENERATION

16. David Adcock-Emry (30)(25) (47) (2) was born on 24 Jun 1832 in parents home, Randolph Co., Indiana. (48) Holloway shows the birth to have been near Winchester, Indiana He was Friends - Spring Bank MM, Dixon Co., Nebraska about 1893 in Springbank, Dixon Co., Nebraska.(27) David Adcock Emry was a member of the Monthly Meeting of Friends, Pleasant Plain, Iowa, prior to his moving to Nebraska. He died on 29 Dec 1916 in Central City, Merrick Co., Nebraska. He was buried in Central City Cemetery, Merrick Co., Nebraska. Grave is in SW Corner of Cemetery which is one mile North of Central City, Nebraska. BIOGRAPHY: David Adcock Emry was born of a pioneering family who settled in Iowa when it was still a territory (about 1839). He was a quaker and member of the Walnut Creek Friends Meeting and continued his active membership throughout his life. Nearly forty of his productive years, after marriage, were spent farming near Pleasant Plain, Iowa, first on the farm of his parents and later on what is known as the Shockley farm. In 1893 they moved, with three of the children, to Knox county, Nebraska, settling in the Kemma community near Creighton. Five years later they moved to a farm in Dixon county, in the Springbank community. In 1899 they again moved, this time to Central City, Merrick Co., Nebraska, spending their later years on a small acerage near Nebraska Central College. He is buried in the Southwestern part of the Central City cemetery, one mile north of the city.

OBITUARY: 2 Jan 1917, Central City, Nebraska Newspaper.

DAVID EMRY As a terminus to many months of suffering, David Emry, an elderly and prominent resident of this community, passed away at his home on the college section Friday evening, December 29th, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 5 days. Due to injuries received during his boyhood, he had been a sufferer most of his life, and a few months past his ailments became more acute, resulting in his death. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Friends church, Rev. J. D. Mills being in charge. Many were present to pay their last respects to the memory of a staunch friend and thoughtful neighbor. Eight seats in the center of the church were filled with relatives. Internment was in the cemetery north of the city.
David Emry, son of Travis and Elizabeth Emry, was born in Randolph county, Indiana, June 24th 1832. When seven years of age, he moved with his parents to Salem, Iowa, and later to Pleasant Plain, that state. There he grew to manhood, and on the 17th day of February, 1855, was united in marriage to Amanda Talbert forming a union that lasted almost sixty-two years. To them were born thirteen children: Richard and William, who died in early life: John, a minister of the Friends church, who died in 1905; James of Independence Kas.; Francis H. of Waterbury, this state; Cyrus of Norden, this state; Alfred L. of this city; Mrs. Abram Jones of Aroya, Colo.; Mrs Cyrus Holloway of Salem, Ohio; Mrs Chandler Paxson of Tamarack, Minn.; Mrs Philip Mesner, Mrs W.C. Truesdell and Harriet F. Emry of this city. He is also survived by eighty grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren.
In 1893 he came with his wife and three younger children to Nebraska, living first in Knox county and then in Springbank. The last seventeen years of his life were spent as a resident of this community. Mr. Emry was a birthright member of the Friends church, but not until almost middle life did his active work in the church begin. After his conversioin he became a pioneer in the progressive movement of the church, always faithful in attendance at the services when possible. He took an active interest in the business of the church and held responsible positions during the greater part of his more than forty years of active service, being elder at the time of his death.
It can be truly said that the advancement of Christ's Kingdom on earth was a leading motive of his whole life, and to this end he worked constantly as long as his strength remained.

Their children were Alta, Clarence, Earl, Ralph, Elsie, Lloyd, Inez, and Dale. About 1911 Frank and Lydia bought a place about three miles west of Waterbury, known as the Fegley place. In January of 1920 they moved to a place closer to Allen and the Springbank Church. Frank's older brother John Q. Emry and family also came to Allen from Pleasant Plain, Iowa."
