John Reynolds was born in a dug-out type of house on what was called
the old Reynolds place. It was a half-section east of the quarter section "tree
claim". The tree claim to William E. Reynolds (10 May 1893) was located
at the South East quarter of Section Twenty-One, Township Thirty-Four North,
Range Twenty-Two West of the Sixth Principal Meridian, in Nebraska. He died
on 22 Jul 1958 in Ainsworth, Brown Co., Nebraska. He was buried in Springview,
Keyapaha Co., Nebraska. EDUCATION: John Reynolds completed the 4th or 5th
grade at Guide Rock, District 33 (Sod House School).
BIOGRAPHY: John Reynolds built a sod house on his father's "tree claim"
in 1936 or '37. His mother had planted and taken care of the trees, thus "claiming"
the land. He was married to Susie Amy Shattuck on 14 Feb 1912 in Springview,
Keyapaha Co., Nebraska.(21)
7. Susie Amy Shattuck

1892 in Britt, Story Co., Iowa. She died on 8 Jul 1969 in Salem, Marion Co.,
Oregon. She was buried on 14 Jul 1969 in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Springview, Keyapaha
Co., Nebraska. EDUCATION: Susie Amy Shattuck attended grade school at Cottonwood,
Pleasant Valley, and Guide Rock Schools. Guide Rock School was a sod school
house.
OCCUPATION: She worked as a homemaker all of her life. This included working
in the fields, helping ranch and milking cows. She also worked, for about a
year, as a companion to an elderly lady in Coos Bay, Oregon.
BIOGRAPHY: Susie Amy Shattuck came to Nebraska as a small girl in a covered
wagon from Iowa. They lived on the upper end of the Pleasant Valley Community,
Keyapaha Co., Nebraska.

Susie Amy Shattuck was born to Lavant and Mary Shattuck in Britt, Iowa,
December 19, 1892. When a small girl she came to Keya Paha County, Nebraska
in a covered wagon with her parents. She attended school at Cottonwood and Pleasant
Valley. She was baptized at the age of 16 years in the Baptist Church.
She was married to John Reynolds February 14, 1912 at Springview, Nebr.
To this union three daughters were born. She and her husband ranched until
1947 when they retired at Long Pine, Nebr. After the death of her husband July
22, 1958 she spent the remaining years in Oregon near her daughters.
Survivors include three daughters: Alice (Mrs Lew Dougall of Salem, Oregon),
Inez (Mrs Al Haun of Vale, Oregon), Ortha (Mrs. Russell Emry of Vale, Oregon),
12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters; Laura Wyatt of Mesa, Ariz.,
and Lula Mock of Harbor City, Calif.; one brother, Donald Shattuck of Yakima,
Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother,
one grandson, and two great grandsons.
Funeral services were held July 14, 1969 at the Community Auditorium in
Springview, conducted by the Rev. C. C. Norlin, pastor of the United Methodist
Church in Springview. Music was provided by Mrs. T. G. Weddel, pianist, and
Harvey Neal, soloist. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Springview. Children
were:
