"Rachel Hoskins nee Emry was born in Randolph County, Ind, Jan 28, 1823
and died near Hardman, Oregon, March 24, 1901, aged 78 years, 1 month and 24
days. She was married to Dillon Hoskins Aug 14, 1839, in Henry Co., Iowa. They
crossed the plains with ox teams in 1852 and settled in Linn Co., Oregon, and
moved to Morrow Co., Oregon in 1876. She was the mother of sixteen children
of whom eleven are living, four dying in infancy, and her oldest son James dying
in 1892. Her living decendents include eleven children, fifty-four grand-children
and forty great grand-children. The total number of her decendants are one hundred
and thirty-two of who one hundred and five are living. She had a birthright
in the Quaker Church, joined the M.E. Church but was Radical U.B. in belief.
Her influence was strongly against secrecy and intemperance. She led a quiet,
unassuming life, but many will remember her testimony to the saving power of
Jesus. Her death was triumphant, she was calling the names of loved ones as she
neared the heavenly shore. Among her descendants are three U.B. Ministers, a
son, daughter and grandson."
