They settled seven miles from Sarnia. Purchased a farm (15 acres clear land) on the river (St.Clair for $950.00 down)

ELEN HYDE:
John & Helen moved to Township of Moore River, St. Clair, Ontario in August,
1850 and purchased a farm on the river for which he paid down $950.00. There
was about 15 acres clear land and a dwelling house. They were located 7
miles from Port Sarnia, Ontario. (Information taken from a letter written to
John's nephew, James Bagnall, on July 8, 1851.)
