Salisbury Missouri newspaper obituary for Lorenzo Dow Cobb.
Lorenzo Dow Cobb was born April 9,1842 in Seneca county, Ohio. He wasthe second of a family of five children of Ebenezer and Polly (Miller)Cobb. When he was quite young his parents moved to Indiana, where hismother died. Later the family moved to Michigan, where Mr. Cobb wasreared and educated.
In 1859 he left home and went to Iowa where he lived until he enlistedin the Union army in 1861. . . . . .
(He served in the Iowa volunteer calvary until early fall 1862)
(He then returned to Michigan and enlisted in the Michigan volunteer calvary . . was mustered out at Ft. Levenworth, Kansas, November1865)

After being mustered out he returned to Yankee Springs, Michigan, but during his absence, his father (Ebenezer) had moved to Missouri. He then visited Ebenezer in Missouri and actually bought some land in Macon county (probably where Ebenezer lived). After about three years Lorenzo sold that land and moved to Chariton county. I assume that Ebenezer did not move.
(Two sisters residing in Macon county survive him)

History of Howard and Chariton Missouri counties
Also states Lorenzo was the second of five children, and names them as John J. Cobb (the eldest), Lorenzo Dow, Sarah A., Joseph and Abigal.
The parents being Ebenezer Cobb (a native of PA) and Polly Miller.Ebenezer was already a widower when he married Polly.
Again the story about moving to Indiana, where Polly and the two youngest children died. Then Ebenezer takes the three remaining children to Michigan where he marries Adelia Hardendorph. By Adelia he has three more daughters ( Ella, Anna, and Etta).
This book says Ebenezer came to Missouri in 1864, two years before Lorenzo did.
