SIXTH GENERATION241. Christopher Columbus COMEE
(1) was born on 28 Jan 1827 in Gardner,
Worcester, Massachusetts. During the Civil Was he was a First Sergeant of Company
G, 94th Reg new York Volunteers. On 14 May 1862 he was commissioned a First
Lieutenant and on 1 November 1862 to Captain. He served in the Battle of Cedar
Mountain, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Christopher was taken
prisoner 1 July 1863 at Gettysburg and taken to Libby prison until 7 March 1864
when he was delivered to the U.S. authorities at City Point, Virginia. He was
taken to Annapolis, Maryland and eventually to Camp Parole where he was seen
by medical personnel. He was said to have been very weak in body. He was given
20 days leave of absence which he used to visit his family at Bellville, New
York. At the Battle of Cold Harbor, 12 Jun 1864, Christopher took ill and was
carried from the field. He never really recovered from his incarceration at
Libby Prison.
He was married to Maroa GRISWOLD (daughter of Sylvester
GRISWOLD) on 2 Sep 1847 in Adams, New York. Christopher Columbus
