EIGHTH GENERATION466. Anson Sibley COMEE (1) was born on 19 Oct 1842 in Dana, Worcester, Massachusetts. He died on 28 Sep 1892 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. During the Civil War, Anson enlisted on 4 Jul 1862 in Company E, 34th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer and was mustered on 31 Jul 1862. The regiment left August 15th for the seat of war reaching Hunter's Chapel near Arlington, Virginia. On August 22nd it proceeded to Alexandria and then to Cloud's Mills. The regiment saw action at Fort Ellsworth, Fort Lyon, and Upton's Hill. He was discharged for a disability at Fort Lyon, Virginia on 14 Jan 1863. He was a resident of Hardwick when he enlisted again on 27 Feb 1864, when the battery was ordered to proceed to Washington. They left Massachusetts on 19 April 1864 and two days later they reached Camp Barry near the Bladensburg Toll Gate on the outskirts of Washington. The battery remianed there until May when it was sent to Fort Thayer, one of the northerly defenses of Washington. A week later they returned to Camp Barry where it stayed until June 1st. Part of the unit was sent to Fort Lyon and part sent to Fort Weed until they were re-equipped with four 12 pounders and horses. On July 13th the command was sent to Albany, New York where it was stationed at the Troy Road Barracks until November 16th. On December 16, 1864 the battery crossed the Potomac and proceeded to the Fairfax Court House. While on furlough at the Fairfax Court House he deserted on 3 Apr 1865, he was a First Sergeant at the time. He was married to Annie SAMUELS (daughter of William CROWTHER and Sarah) on 8 Mar 1881 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Annie SAMUELS (1) was born on 22 Mar 1855 in England. |
