Notes for JOHN JOSEPH (FATHER JOHN) CURRAN: John Joe was ordained in Maynooth, Dublin. Just afterward, he went to New York and stayed with his sisters Elizabeth (Didi) and Mary Anne (Auntie). The first time he had to deliver the Last Rites happened to be to my Uncle Jim Fallon after he was hit in the head with the metal grating which covers basement steps on the streets of New York. He turned blue and the doctors did not think he would live. It turns out he survived just fine to tell this story. John Joe (Father John) went on and moved to Wichita, Texas. He made a very well name for himself for many years. When he died, they laid his body out in the church for all the townspeople to say their goodbye's. He was very loved. He is buried in Wichita. |
