AMES JOSEPH FALLON:
James Fallon came from a family of 9 brothers. He was a carpenter. He did his carpenter apprenticeship with Charlie McLoughlin, a friend from Knock. Charlie bought a Religious Goods Shop in Knock across from the Shrine. James and Charlie started their apprenticeship making coffins in Mayo.
James emigrated to America in 1911 with Bill O'Dwyer (future Mayor of NYC) and captain of the Mayo football team. James married Elizabeth Curran. He continued working as a carpenter. He worked on the Empire State Building (his heel was cut from a falling girder) and Rockefeller Center. In 1941-42, he went overseas to work in Panama (not on the canal).
James also had some type of connection with the Seabees.
In the mid 1930's he and his wife bought a restaurant / bar called Joan Elizabeth's originally at 829 3rd Ave and then moved it to the NW corner of 51st and 3rd Avenues in New York City. He built his own bar of mohogany, very craftily and deftly, he leveled the bar so that to the customer the whiskey glass appeared filled to the brim, while on the bartender side the glass was only 2/3 full. this was James Jr.'s first and best physics lesson. Liquid seeks its own level and it made it possible for Pop to give away that many more drinks on the House, plus a couple for himself.
In mid 1920 James was also elected President of the Mayo Men's County Association in NYC.
