The heirs were his wife and children. It was also noted that there was a request that his son John was to be bound out to a Richard Red man in Philadelphia to learn the bricklayer trade.

William and his wife were slave owners who treated their slaves well according to daughter Hannah. During the siege of Philadelphia a company of English soldiers came into the house in Mount Holly, New Jersey and took all the furniture into the yard, scattered the feathers from the beds "to the four winds" and then set fire to the furniture. The soldiers made Hannah dance for them. William was furious then took off his Quaker coat and placed it on the burning furniture and said "Damn Quakerism. I will have my revenge."
