"Herman was standing near an immense blast furnace as foreman of the Department of Colorado Fuel and Iron Co.'s plant at Pueble, Colo. when an earthen plug blew out and he was struck by the flood of molten metal and flames and his death was instantaneous." "He was born in Peru 23 years ago, and graduated from high school here. Upon the resignation of his brother Merris as vice consul at St. John, N. B. he was appointed to that position which he filled in an admirable manner. At the time of his death he had a money order for $20 payable in St. Johns in payment of a premium for his policy of $1,000 on his live which was not due until April 5."
