bulletAlmeda Louisa WILEY was born on 24 Mar 1843 in Cedar Township, Lockridge, Jefferson, Iowa. She died on 23 Sep 1909 in Butte Falls, Jackson County, Oregon. Louisa died from food poisoning. Elvin and Louisa had opened a can of Pork and Beans and ate a partial can and put the unempty tin back in the cupboard. Later they ate the remaining beans causing both of them to suffer food poisoning. Louisa did not recover and died as a result of the bad food. She was buried on 27 Sep 1909 in Butte Falls, Jackson County, Oregon. Louisa is buried in the Butte Falls, Jackson, Oregon cemetery in Block #1, Section 135, Plot #2. Louisa is buried next to Tom Hayes. The cemetery is wooded and covered with natural wild sweet peas which were in full bloom in July 1998. Louisa and Tom have no formal headstones other than a metal post that had a record on paper behind glass indicating who was buried in the grave. Weather had eroded the paper. Someone has recently placed a wood headstone on Louisa and Toms graves. The headstone is thick wood with incscription of "Mrs Tom Hayes" scripted into it. The same was done for Thomas and every other grave in the cemetery that had no formal headstone. The City Hall had no knowledge of who took and and completed the task. She was baptised into the LDS church on 31 Jul 1968 in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS temple. She was endowed on 1 Aug 1968 in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS temple. She was endowed on 1 Aug 1968. The 1900 Census for Big Butte, Jackson, Oregon was taken on 1 June 1900 by an Ira Turngate. The census shows Louisa as head of household and as a widow. She states that she has been married 37 years and that 7 of her 8 children are still living. Living in the household are sons Emmett and Merrit. But are identified as Emmett M. and Elvan. The occupations for both sons is listed as farm laborer. Louisas farm was rented.
The 1870 Federal Census for Union Township in Van Buren County, Iowa dated 7 Jun 1870 lists Louisa employed as Keeping House. Louisa lists her age as 37, Laura Jane as 4 years and Charles Baxter as 1 year old. Thomas is listed as age 30, working as a Farm Laborer with land valued at $125.00.
She is remembered by her granddaughter, Cora (Ted) Hayes, as being a very kind and loving person. Parents: Eli WILEY and Jane STANDLEY.

Eli Wiley lists one male 30-40 years old (so he is born between 1800 and 1810) and two females ages 5-10 also two females under 5 years old, finally a female 30-40 years old, his wife. (Jacob Wiley lists a male 80-90 years old and a female ages 10-15. Jacob is the father to Eli. The 10-15 year old could be a child apprenticed out to help him. She may or may not be family. She could be Eli's oldest daughter.

Eli is listed in the Cedar Township, Lockridge, Jefferson County, Iowa Federal Census. the census was taken on 19 July 1870. Eli is listed as Dwelling 149 Family 144. His occupation is listed as a Farmer with land value of $3200.00 and personal assests of $660.00. He lists his age as 79 with birth in Kentucky. Eli, Jane and daughters Matilda & Barbara are living in the home. A girl named Katherine Jenings age 12 living with Eli & Jane listed her occupation as Domestic Servant. and a Francis Jenings age 1 also resided in the home.
The 1850 Census shows us that Eli and family moved from Illinois to Iowa between 1834 and 1836.
Eli's father is Jacob Wiley. Schuyler County is the area where veterans of the war of 1812 received bounty lands and I do show that a Jacob Wiley and also an Eli B Wiley received bounty lands in that area 1818. .
