He was buried on 20 Apr 1901 in San Jose, California. Burial is in the Oak Hill Memorial Park Joseph brought his family on a ship from Los Angeles to Newport, Benton, Oregon in 1890.. (since 1893 Newport is in Lincoln County) The family then went via covered wagon to Waldport, Benton, Oregon.
Joseph treated his family poorly. He moved his family into a home on 31 Mar 1890 in Waldport. Oregon. Joseph left his wife and children alone by 1892. He had not visited the home in over eight years as of Mar 31, 1901. Joseph began living with Nancy (Sharp) Fenimore who was the widowed wife of his first cousin Aaron Fenimore. Sallie wrote in a letter dated 31 Mar 1901 "I was always to blame for anything out of the right, but I knew for sometime that he was staying with Nancy Fennimore and thought a good deal of her an acted that as he went to stay with her." While Joseph and Nancy began living together the state of Oregon came into the home and removed the children that were left. Joseph stated that he had whipped Nancy's children with a buggy whip. When Joseph did return home Nancy wrote Joseph weekly after he returned home. Parents: Joseph BENNETT and Sarah Elizabeth FENIMORE.
