From a letter from A. Edna Flack, Apr. 23, 1997: "Ray, Bonnie's husband, said that my mother worked and tried so hard that they just wanted to help her, and they did !......No she never left her own home to live with any of us, she was always happy to have her own home ! She never lost any babies or children but she did have a burial dress made up for Effie. You know that she had spinal meningitis (sp ? ha) when she was four years old. Mother said that she was never undressed for six weeks taking constant care of her. I remember that she would mash bananas and feed them to her as she would try to fight her away.!"

Letter from A. Edna 6/14/97: " ......[idea for a book to write]Then when my mother went out west to Oregon by automobile with her niece and her family who had come to Iowa to visit her......On going thru my mother's notebooks telling of the trip & other times & experiences, I was rather overcome with so many emotions....."

Copied from a letter to me from Aunt Edna Flack, Apr. 23, 1997: "I didn't remember what dad's wife's name was or the date of their marriage but Ed and I did visit with them for supper one time and we were supposed to stay all night but Ed began to cry and wanted to go back to Ophas house so I wouldn't stay either. Oren and the older girls went to see him in the hospital. His wife and [her ?] two grown sons came to Stockport and I remember being at the depot with them and they opened the casket and I saw him. [She would have been 11 yrs. old at the time.] He was buried near Fairfield, Lockradge I think. My brother Ed and I went over there one time and dad was buried beside his parents.".........G.

Excerpt from 'First Memories' by & received (3/18/97) from Edna Flack: "My memory of my father is very dim. I remember how I sat on his lap on the porch and he playfully called me his bad egg. Also times when he sat in the living room and played 'Pop Goes the Weasel' on the fiddle. He also could make an interesting musical sound on a saw by holding the metal end of the saw between his knees and so bending it back and forth and striking it with a metal object. He would keep us spellbound with his entertainment !
Another time he offered to me a shiny new penny if I would get into the Ford of a friend of his to go for a ride, but I would not ! It shook and shimmied and the motor was so loud that we had to shout to be heard above it ! I can still see the 'Ford' printed into the fender that I was to step on to get into the two seated, black top & open sided automobile.......
Divorce was little spoken of in those days and as my mother kept her feelings to herself, she never talked to me about my father, either to praise him or condemn him. But she was a strong woman, independent, & God fearing. I can't say that I blame her for not talking about or praising a man who walked off & left 8 children behind him, never to return, probably because of the stipulation in the divorce decree.........
My father had been gone, working in the Round House for the Railroad Company in Ft. Madison, IA. some time before the divorce was final in March of l921."
Frank was burned by an exploding stove when he threw gasoline on corn cobs.

Wallace was lost on 1 May 1943 on his first mission in the Carribean during World War II. He was a staff Sargeant and a pilot. He was a tail gunner when shot down. He died on 1 May 1943 in Caribbean Ocean. Wallace was shot down during WWII working as a tail gunner. His funeral was held after the death of his mother as she would not allow a funeral without a body in hopes that some how he had just not made it home.
