Elizabeth
FEE was born in 1731 in Rock Creek, Maryland. She signed a will on 24 Aug
1796 in Frederick Co., Maryland. She died 20 Nov 1796 (Will) in Augusta, Washington,
Pennsylvania. Elizabeth made out her will on 24 Aug 1796. It was probated on
20 Nov 1796. Elizabeth named in addition to her sons, John ankroms deceased
leaving children, Elizabeth mentions the Children of mary Ankrom Delashmutt apparently
a daughter and mother of two girls mentioned in the will of Richard Sr. Elizabeth
gave a portion of her estate to Elizabeth Ankrom Thrasher, another daughter and
the wife of John Thrasher, warrantee of a tradt of land on the Tenmile near the
farm of the deceased John ankrom. The tract was called "Chance" warrented
to John Thrasher on 7 May 1785 by virtue of a Virginia Certificate, and was patented
to him of 26 Feb 1788. It seems probable that another son, William Ankrom,
not mentioned by the Wills of Richard Sr and Elizabeth (Duckett) Ankrom, but
named one of the executors of John Ankrom's Will in Washington County, Pa made
in 1782, may have also died before the parents. (See more under John Ankrom,
son)
bur. across the road from the Old Co. Infirmary Tyler Co, WV. Sand stone, markers still stand. Elizabeth (Clark) Ankroms headstone, although badly worn, reads: When Elizabeth (Duckett) Ankrom, widow of Richard Ankrom Sr, died, she also left a will, which she made on August 24, 1796, and which was probated November 20, 1796. In addition to naming the same sons as heirs, with John Ankrom deceased leaving children, she mentions the children of Mary (Ankrom) Delashmutt, apparently a daughter and mother of the two girls mentioned in the will of Richard Ankrom Sr. She also gave a portion of her estate to Elizabeth (Ankrom) Thrasher, another daughter and the wife of John Thrasher, warrantee of a tract of land on Tenmile near the farm of John Ankrom deceased. This tract called "Chance" warranted to John Thrasher May 7, 1785, by virtue of a Virginia Certificate, was patented to him on February 26, 1788. (Frederick County Will Book 3, pp 149). ADDED: April 5, 1997 There is some contradiction as to her marriage to Richard Ankrom Sr, b. 1727. Frederick County, MD Will Book 3, p 149 may support or deny that her maiden name was DUCKETT however this is the name that is quoted in family records, followed by the reference to this Will Book. David Ankrom in his papers refers to her as "Elizabeth Ankrom widow" and "Richard Ankroms' wife was Elizabeth" giving no maiden name. In the last paragraph of a letter of introduction of himself, David Ankrom states "Richard was son of Richard Ankrom Sr and Elizabeth Fee". Donsel Ankrom, Historian, in his book Ankrom Genealogy USA 1659 to 1988, copyright 1988, on p. 1 states "Richard never married Elizabeth Duckett", and he lists Richard Ankrom Sr's wife as Elizabeth Fee. However Donsel acknowledges that he went to "Oregon and copied Dave's material". (p2 of ref). Here he was referring to David E. Ankrom of Oregon, whose papers are included in some of our family records. Howard L. Leckey, Historian, in his book "The Tenmile Country and It's Pioneer Families, refers to Richard Sr's wife as "Elizabeth Duckett and gives the MD Will Book as reference. Conclusion: Will Book 3 p. 149 of Frederick County, MD needs to be reviewed and a copy made and placed in our family records. NOTE: Richard Sr and Elizabeth had a son named Jacob Duckett Ankrom. It was common practice to give middle names to children that were derived from ancestral names. So, from where did this name DUCKETT come, that was given to Jacob? ---------------------------------------------- When Elizabeth Ankrom, widow of Richard Ankrom Sr, died, she also left a will, which she made on August 24, 1796, and which was probated November 20, 1796.
