Samuel was one of the first to volunteer his services following the Battle of Bunker Hill when the Contenental Congress ordered New Jersey to raise four regiments for the Revolutionary War. He enlisted on 4 Nov 1775. Samual served on the rolls of the 2nd Battalion of NJ until 15 Jan 1776. In Feb 1776 Israel Shreve was named commanding officer of the Battallion. The Fenimores of Burlington served in his battalion and later in his regiment. His regiment was part of Maxwells Brigade and was with Washington im many of the most important battles of the Revulutionary War. Samuel was a captain and served at "mount Washington (Fort Washington, NY) in Sep and Oct 1776 and was in the Battle of White Plains on Occt 28. Samuel joined General Washington at the Battle of Trenton on 26 Dec 1776 as well as the battle of Princeton on 3 Jan 1777. Samuels Troop was the only Cavalry in the service of Gen. Lafayette and was on the committe with General Washington to recieve Lafayette when he arrived in America. He died in 1829 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Parents: Thomas FENIMORE and Mary HARKER .

bullet Samuel FENIMORE was born in 1793 in Burlington, Burlington, New Jersey. He died in 1818 in Mackinaw, Michigan. He served in the military 1812 - 1 Jun 1815 in Buffalo, New York. Samuel enlisted as a Fifer in the 16th Regiment of the US Infantry in the spring of 1814 for a period of five years. Samuel contacted the same illness at the same time as his brother Benjamin (the two were nearly identical twins) and were discharged at Buffalo, New York on the 1st of June in 1815. Samuel died in the service of his country in 1818 in Mackinaw, Michigan. There is no mention of if this was due to government civilian service or military. Samuel had a wife with no name to be found. His daughter Jane in 1853
made an inquiry as to the circumstances of his death. Samuel used a
military land grant to locate land in Peru, Illinois. There is
however no record that he ever went to Illinois. He had his bounty
mailed to him in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Parents: Benjamin FENIMORE and Ann.

bullet Sarah Elizabeth FENIMORE was born on 10 Feb 1813 in Union Township, Ross, Ohio. She was buried in Jan 1890 in Woodburn, Marion, Oregon. Burial is in the Belle Passi Cemetery located on Belle Passi Road about 2 miles from the center of the town. Sarah's headstone is made of white marble and is shaped in a four sided pointed top post about ten inches wide on each side. The engravings are becoming quite thin and hard to read. The head stone gives her name and date of birth and some inscription that will have to be traced at a latter date to identify its writing. Sarah is buried in Section 5, lot 006 located at the left front side of the cemetery close to the paved road. Sarah's nephew Aaron Fenimore who died in 1891 is buried to the left of her. She died on 10 Jan 1890 in Woodburn, Marion, Oregon. Sarah and Joseph sold their land on the 13th of November in 1828 that was located in Kirkwood, Shelby County, Ohio to a John G. Mount from Butler County, Ohio. Sarah and her Joseph moved from Ross County, Ohio to Hamilton Township in Delaware County in Indiana in around 1828. They stayed there until May 1831 when the moved to Richland, Madison, Indian and stayed until Jul 1839. After Jul 1839 Sarah and Joseph moved to most likely Bond county and remained there until Feb 1841. From Feb 1841 until Sep 1849 they resided in Belleville, St. Clair County. In Sept 1849 they moved to South River Township in Marion County, Missouri and stayed until May 1851. In May 1851 until March 1882 they lived in Payson, Adams, Illinois. Then in March 1882 to the Mid 1880's Sarah lived between the towns of Alsea, Waldport,and Pilomath in Benton County, Oregon. Most likely from the urging of son Albert Reed Bennet who had previously moved there. Sarah lived from the mid 1880's until her death in 1890 in the little town of Woodburn, Marion, Oregon located near Salem, Oregon. On the 13th April in 1835 Sarah was the first of her family to recessive payment from her fathers (Ebenezer Jr.) estate. At that time her widowed sister Mary was living on the ancestral farm of their father and was a legatee in the 1877 will of George Fenimore. Sarah went blind as remembered by Irene (Bennet) Hellgren. In March of 1878 Sara started receiving a pension from Josephs service in the War of 1812. She received $12.00 a month with increased to $16.00 in May of 1886. Irene Hellgren has two envelopes of Sarah's that were mailed from the Pension Agency in Chicago, Illinois with one addressed to Sarah in Alsea, Oregon in 1883. The other was mailed to Sarah in Woodburn, Marion, Oregon on 8 DEC 1888. Parents: Ebenezer Ross FENIMORE Sr and Mary REA (?).

She was married to Joseph BENNETT on 1 Aug 1827 in Chillicothe, Ross, Ohio. Sarah's last name is written as "fennemore" in the records. Source is also in the LDS Film #0281637-0281639. She was sealed to spouse on 10 Feb 1981 in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS temple. Children were: Catherine L. BENNETT, William BENNETT, Wesley M.
