Jack's dad worked as an electrician in L.A. and made good money--but the family saw very little of it. he was an alcoholic..Bob was always out working to put food on the table. While Dad was in the 10th and 11th grade, he worked putting furniture together. His mom took them to Texas jack ,nana,and sonny. No dad. Don't know when Jess and Emma hooked back up again, nor when they moved to Northern Calif.

Fought in the Argonne Forest in France during WWI and received a commendation.
6.6.00 Yvonne : was in world war 1 --he got mustard gassed, and wounded. dad thinks he was in the 113th machine gun battalion, in France. He received a special citation of some sort. He received a purple heart.....(on 5.12.01 Holly saw it in the possession of Uncle Bob Ferguson) Earl is building a house in Roseville, nearby. but we haven't seen him since before xmas.

During the depression, Your grandpa Jess and brother Elmer raised mushrooms in Compton one day someone left the door open,and the mushrooms all sprouted at the same time..and they couldn't sell them all at once.so it was not very productive for them.

John George said that when he came home from war the town of Afton was out there to greet him including a band. He wanted to forget about the war and didn't consider himself a hero and so got off at Miami, OK. He drank to forget. Lost a lung, was a machinegunner. When he ran out of ammo, he ran out to hide in cave and there was a 16 year old German soldier, frightened. Told him to go home. Told John he didn't want to kill no kid alhtough he was but one himself.

Jack Lee Ferguson says he made it through the 3rd grade, but was real smart.

J. R. Ferguson Jesse R. Ferguson, a Nice resident, died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was 86. A native
of Missouri, Mr. Ferguson came to Lake County 22 years ago from Lawndale. He was an electrician for 50 years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Joy Madeiros Post No. 2015.
Survivors inlcue his sons, Robert F. Ferguson of Simi Valley, Jack Ferguson of Newcastle, and Elmer L. Ferguson of Sacramento, daughter, Nana Kullman of Ukiah, 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services by Larry Perkins will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at James Mortuary in Lakeport. Burial will be in Hartley Cemetery.
